The public prosecutor's office, with around 250 employees, consists of four regional investigation offices, one cantonal investigation office responsible for the entire canton, the staff services, and the juvenile prosecution office. The public prosecutor's office is an independent investigative and prosecutorial authority of the canton of St.Gallen, responsible for the uniform enforcement of the state's criminal claims and conducts criminal proceedings for crimes, offenses, and violations.
Due to the upcoming retirement of the Chief Public Prosecutor, we are looking for a leadership personality by agreement, with a start date during 2026, for the position of

What to expect
- You lead the public prosecutor's office of the canton of St.Gallen and at the same time the cantonal investigation office, including the staff services
- As Chief Public Prosecutor, you lead by example, ensuring in close coordination with the department management a shared leadership understanding for the entire organizational unit and thus shape a uniform leadership culture
- You continue and further develop the initiated organizational development to standardize processes as well as for knowledge and competence transfer within the entire public prosecutor's office
- You chair the public prosecutor's conference and ensure in this leadership body through overall responsible and proactive moderation the uniform application of the law and the proper fulfillment of tasks by the law enforcement authorities
- You represent the public prosecutor's office externally towards courts, police, authorities, and the public
- You independently conduct selected investigations and competently and convincingly represent the state's criminal claims in court
What distinguishes you
- You have a university degree in law and many years of professional and leadership experience in criminal justice
- Scientific and/or didactic experience in criminal law and criminal procedure law is an advantage
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills as well as enjoyment in developing, supporting, and accompanying executives and employees
- You are a mature, honest, and empathetic personality who easily acts in a connecting manner and promotes collegial, positive exchange
- You work solution-oriented, think in networks, and decide clearly
- You show great skill in interdisciplinary collaboration with various partner organizations (police, administrative authorities, etc.)
- You communicate confidently, precisely, and convincingly in German (both written and spoken)
