Regional Forest Engineer and Specialist in Natural Hazards

The Office for Forest and Natural Hazards (AWN) is the cantonal specialist office for the forest and protection against natural hazards. The employees of the AWN advocate for the needs of society regarding the forest and ensure that the forest is managed sustainably.
You ensure that the Bündner forest
- can protect people, animals and infrastructure,
- is a habitat for diverse animal and plant species,
- is a raw material supplier of wood, water and energy,
- can continue to be a recreational and leisure area for people.
We are looking for a Regional Forest Engineer and Specialist in Natural Hazards (80-100 %) from 1 November 2026 or by arrangement.
Your area of responsibility
- As a Regional Forest Engineer, you will be responsible for the assigned municipality of Bregaglia: enforcement of federal and cantonal forest legislation; ensuring the best possible fulfilment of forest functions
- As a Specialist in Natural Hazards, you will lead corresponding projects in the South Bündner region: preparation of process-separated hazard maps and risk analyses; advising municipalities, private individuals and other bodies on integrated risk management for natural hazards; serving as a member of the Hazard Commission 3 (South Bündner and Herrschaft - Prättigau - Davos).
What we expect from you
- Degree as a Forest Engineer ETH or FH, or Master’s degree in Environmental Natural Sciences ETH with a focus on Forest and Landscape Management
- Solid silvicultural knowledge
- Many years of experience with sound knowledge in all relevant gravitational natural hazard processes as well as in hazard assessment; proficient handling of integrated risk management for natural hazards in the Swiss context
- General working languages are German and Italian; good knowledge of several cantonal languages is an advantage
