On 1 September 2025, Dr med vet Hans Wyss will assume the chairmanship of the board of Identitas AG. He succeeds Manfred Bötsch, who is retiring due to age.

Hans Wyss was unanimously elected president by the general meeting of Identitas AG as early as May 2025. However, he will only take office after leaving the federal administration. With him, a profound expert on the environment relevant to Identitas AG remains at the head of the company. His decades of experience in animal health and disease control, food safety and the environment, his national and international networking, and his understanding of the upcoming digitalisation steps were decisive for his election.

Stability and Innovation

Hans Wyss looks forward to his new role: "The epidemic situation throughout Europe is as acute as it has not been for 20 years, making the core mission of Identitas AG correspondingly current. Despite the complexity of the various areas, Identitas AG provides numerous indispensable services in a user-friendly form, which serve as decision-making bases for politics, administration, business and the public. Especially in the area of digitalisation of agriculture, Identitas AG is a crucial element." Since Hans Wyss was previously a board member of Identitas AG, he knows and values the close cooperation with the private sector. In these areas, Identitas AG is to grow and contribute its expertise.

About the Person

After studying veterinary medicine at the University of Bern from 1979 to 1984, Hans Wyss was an assistant at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Bern from 1985 to 1987. In 1987, he was awarded a doctorate in veterinary medicine with a thesis on respiratory problems in horses. From 1987 to 1990, he worked as a sports journalist at Radio SRG and then from 1991 to 1992 as a partner in a large animal veterinary practice. In 1993, Hans Wyss became deputy cantonal veterinarian of the canton of Bern.

From 1999 to 2002, he headed the communication as well as licensing and control departments at the Federal Veterinary Office (BVET). From 2003 to 2013, he was its director; subsequently, he led the newly founded Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs (BLV) in the same position until summer 2025. In 2008, Hans Wyss was appointed honorary professor at the University of Bern.
