Specialist in Measurement Technology and Durability
Our Mechanical Systems Engineering (MSE) department at Empa in Dübendorf is engaged in the development of innovative material systems in the field of composites and metals, as well as sustainable load-bearing systems. Through its expertise in mechanical engineering and materials and an open interdisciplinary approach, the MSE department is an important partner in transport, the MedTech industry, and lightweight construction (up to bridge construction). The Durability group works on a wide range of topics related to material fatigue and durability of components and mechanical systems.
Your tasks
In this versatile role, you support the Durability group with your expertise in measurement technology and durability. You take responsibility in research, development, and direct exchange with partners from industry and science. Specifically, you can expect:
- Participation in research and development projects as well as independent handling of your own work packages.
- Technical support of project leaders, doctoral candidates, students, and interns in experimental and measurement investigations.
- Contribution to scientific publications and writing technical reports.
- Independent acquisition and implementation of industrial and research projects in the area of strength, service life, and operational loads of materials and constructions – including quotation, consulting, planning, project management, conducting experiments and tests, as well as designing the necessary test adapters (CAD).
- Planning and evaluation of operational load measurements on structures, if necessary with deployments outside the laboratory.
Your profile
You have a technical basic education at university level (Dipl. Masch.-Ing. FH/TU, BSc or equivalent) and possess solid know-how in areas such as lightweight construction, durability, and measurement technology. Furthermore, we expect from you:
- Experience in handling hydraulic and pressure-loaded test systems.
- Enjoyment of practical work, enthusiasm for experimentation, and a careful working style.
- Willingness to work at heights.
- Very good German and good English skills in spoken and written form.
