The Nature and Landscape Department is responsible, in addition to protecting natural and landscape assets, for implementing the city's biodiversity strategy. The main goals are habitat and species promotion, networking, neophyte control, public relations including advising private individuals, and monitoring species occurrences.
What we offer:
- An exciting internship position with the opportunity to gain insight into various areas of Urban Green and to participate in diverse projects, e.g., ecological settlement enhancements, species promotion, or public relations.
- A versatile workplace with interesting activities and insight into the work of the city administration, as well as flexible working hours.
Good reasons to work for the city of St.Gallen:
Your new role:
Based on the city’s biodiversity strategy, you will actively contribute to promoting biodiversity in the city of St.Gallen. Thematic focuses include public relations, monitoring, and neophyte control. Depending on suitability, you can also participate in other projects of the department.
The internship position is for you if
- you enjoy preparing content for media and are not afraid to appear in front of the camera yourself.
- you approach people openly and understand how to convincingly represent and present topics.
- you have good ornithological knowledge or are willing to acquire it.
- you enjoy working outdoors and have temporal flexibility.
- you plan to start or are already pursuing studies in biology, environmental sciences, landscape architecture, or similar fields.
- you ideally already have some experience with ArcGIS.
Focus topics:
Public Relations
You are the voice of nature and landscape and make our work for nature and landscape protection visible. For this, you use the available channels and various formats such as short contributions, videos, and campaigns.
Renewal of the Building-Nesting Bird Inventory
Under professional guidance and together with a team of volunteers, you map the breeding sites of building-nesting birds, coordinate the volunteers’ deployments, are available for questions, and take over data entry and processing in the GIS.
Neophyte Control
Your tasks include monitoring the success of known neophyte locations in the field and further developing our GIS-based recording of neophyte occurrences.
Depending on suitability, time capacity, and workload at Urban Green, you support project managers in other projects.
