Aigle receives the "Swiss Green City" label
On Tuesday 19 November 2024, Aigle was awarded the "Swiss Green City" label, with the "bronze" distinction, granted by the Swiss Union of Park and Promenade Services (USSP). The municipality is now among the 170 local public authorities recognised for their efforts in managing quality green spaces, promoting the return of nature in urban areas.
The "Swiss Green City" label was presented to the City of Aigle today during an official and public evening held at the Cosmopolis cinema in the presence of the Municipal Council and representatives of the USSP. The initial steps to obtain the label began in 2021 and required significant commitment from municipal services, particularly the Road Department and the Forestry Service. For Aigle, it was about highlighting actions that promote nature in urban environments, such as the installation of insect hotels, wildlife structures, new tree plantings, and flower meadows.
To meet the demanding and recommended measures catalogue for obtaining the label, the city of Aigle was supported by a consultancy firm for the audit that took place on 5 September last. With this new label and also relying on the implementation of the first-generation Municipal Climate Plan and audits of its Energy City label (since 2009), Aigle intends to continue realising its environmental policy through the following interventions:
The Municipal Council of Aigle is pleased to count on the partnership of the USSP, a guarantee of expert advice and beneficial for municipal planning in the field of sustainability and respect for biodiversity.
