The University Animal Hospital Zurich is a leader in veterinary medicine and makes a significant daily contribution to the care of sick and injured animals from all over Switzerland and neighboring countries. From May 2024, a team of volunteers will complement the professional medical care of our horse and farm animal patients and support our animal owners on site. Would you like to use part of your time meaningfully for animal owners and their four-legged friends? The reception is our business card and the first point of contact for our customers. To make it easier for animal owners to arrive and find their way around the grounds, we are looking for volunteers who enjoy the following activities: • General customer service, especially helping to find your way around the large animal clinics grounds, support with registration, accompaniment to the examination rooms, etc. • Interaction with customers. Empathetic conversation with animal owners, who are often in emotionally difficult situations and appreciate a listening ear. Requirements • Understanding of the local dialect, fluent German, any foreign language is an advantage • Empathy, teamwork, reliability, polite manners, tolerance • Neat appearance, good health, and enjoyment of encounters with people and animals • Willingness to work regularly • Due to the required empathy and the emotionally challenging situations our customers face, we prefer applicants with solid life experience • Much of the work takes place outdoors. Therefore, some weather resistance is an advantage. Our volunteer team is mainly deployed to support our customers. The treatment and care of our animal patients are the responsibility of trained caregivers as well as veterinarians. However, some experience with large animals (horses and farm animals) can be an advantage. The workload includes two to four half days per month but can be increased by individual arrangement.
