The University Library Basel (UB Basel) with its five locations is one of the most important public information centres in the region. With a collection of 6 million printed and 3.5 million electronic media, half a million visitors annually, and its significant historical collection dating back to the 8th century, it is one of the major scientific libraries in Switzerland. At the same time, it is the cantonal library of Basel-Stadt and accessible to the public. In its role as a mediator between science and society, it offers various stakeholders a versatile learning and meeting space.
The Conservation Department belongs to the Historical Collections division of UB Basel and is responsible for preserving the entire physical collection of the University Library at all its locations for current as well as future users.
UB Basel awards two internships per year as preparation for studies in the field of Conservation/Restoration, specialising in graphics, archive, and library materials.
Your Tasks
- Participation in mass conservation projects on historical collections for digitisation preparation or systematic collection maintenance
- Carrying out simple restoration work under supervision
Your Profile
- You wish to gain your first professional work experience in the field of Conservation/Restoration immediately after finishing school and acquire the qualifications for admission to the corresponding university of applied sciences course
- Your working method is careful and precise
- You are physically resilient and enduring
- You enjoy working in a team
