Social Worker (FH)

Assessments: You assess the need for assistance and protection of children and young people on behalf of families, the KESB or the court. You triage or initiate appropriate support services in collaboration with parents and specialist agencies in child protection.

Case Management: You prepare reports for the KESB and the court and are responsible for implementing statutory child protection measures. As a guardian, you advise and support the entire family system regarding parenting issues.

Developing Child Welfare Solutions: You always place the child at the centre when recommending educational support in outpatient or residential settings, advising parents during separation and divorce, or assessing the burdens in cases of domestic violence.

Collaboration in Child Protection: You build sustainable working alliances with parents and their children as well as involved third parties. You maintain clear and binding cooperation with homes, providers of outpatient support, and various other specialist agencies in the canton.

Experience: You have experience in statutory social work and ideally possess knowledge and/or additional qualifications in child protection, case management, and systemic/solution-oriented counselling.

Personality: You are characterised by independent, structured and responsible working. In addition, you bring openness, motivation and enjoyment of team-oriented collaboration.

Education: You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and preferably have several years of professional experience in child protection.

The Youth, Family and Sport division of the Department of Education Basel-Stadt covers a wide range of topics around childcare, child and youth welfare, early support and sport. It informs and supports children, young people and those involved in upbringing and advocates for high-quality public and private services. Promoting mass sport and physical activity, both in clubs and privately, is also a central task. These activities directly benefit many people in Basel: from children to parents to sports enthusiasts.

The services of the Child and Youth Service (KJD) of the Department of Education Basel-Stadt are focused on the welfare of the child. The staff of the KJD inform, advise and support children, young people and those involved in their upbringing. They assess the support needs of children, young people and parents and organise and coordinate the necessary assistance. The KJD staff act on behalf of families, the Child and Adult Protection Authority (KESB) or the civil court.
