About the job
To strengthen its teams, the Security Department is offering several positions for
100% Professional Firefighters
Your future work environment: Integrated into the Protection and Security Service, the Neuchâtel Coastal Fire Defence Region (RDIL) is the largest firefighter unit in the canton of Neuchâtel. Joining the RDIL means becoming part of a team committed daily to serving the population, where professionals and volunteers combine their skills, experience and energy to face often unpredictable situations.
Your mission: The primary mission is to be present when the population needs you. On a daily basis, you contribute to maintaining a high operational capacity through training, equipment preparation, education and knowledge of the terrain. You are thus ready to intervene at any time, alone or as part of a team, in very diverse situations. During interventions, you may be called upon to:
- Provide aid to people and animals;
- Fight fires and limit their spread;
- Intervene during floods and water-related events;
- Provide assistance during accidents and situations requiring rescue resources;
- Intervene in the presence of hazardous materials;
- Address the consequences of natural events;
- Ensure initial measures during particular situations or major events;
- Work closely with the police, health services, authorities and other partner organisations.
Beyond emergencies, your action aims at an essential objective: protecting lives, preserving the integrity of people and animals, limiting environmental damage and safeguarding property, while contributing to the return to normalcy. Each intervention is different. What remains constant is the need to stay calm, quickly analyse the situation, decide and act together.
Your profile: You have a taste for public service and teamwork. You wish to put your skills at the service of others and are comfortable in situations requiring commitment, composure and adaptability. You are:
- Holder of a federal professional firefighter certificate or willing to undertake this training;
- In good physical condition and ready to maintain your operational capabilities;
- Able to work in a team and integrate into a collective;
- Resistant to stress and able to maintain your composure in demanding situations;
- Endowed with good analytical, decision-making and synthesis skills;
- Available to work irregular hours, notably within continuous 24-hour shifts;
- Resident in Switzerland within the perimeter defined by the applicable municipal decree or willing to establish yourself there;
- Holder of a clean criminal record.
Beyond diplomas and technical skills, we are primarily looking for reliable, committed, curious individuals capable of positively contributing to team life.
We offer you: Joining the RDIL as a professional firefighter means choosing a useful, concrete and deeply human profession, in which no day is quite like the previous one. We offer you:
- A dynamic, demanding and supportive work environment;
- A varied activity at the heart of meaningful missions;
- Close collaboration with professional and volunteer firefighters, as well as many partners;
- Significant opportunities for initial and ongoing training in many operational fields;
- The possibility to develop your skills and progress within the organisation;
- A work environment fostering team spirit, respect, trust and good living together.
The City of Neuchâtel pays particular attention to promoting diversity in life paths and gender.
