2 new apps simplify animal transport for cattle

From now on, cattle keepers can use the newly launched TVD app to operate the most important TVD functions on the go. Electronic accompanying documents for cattle can now be created or received directly in the TVD app. The data is transferred to the transporter via a QR code, who works with the second app, e-transit. Upon arrival at the transfer or destination location, the transporter passes the data on again via QR code. The slaughterhouse imports the data directly into its system. This paves the way for a completely digital and paperless process. Mobile control authorities can also use the e-transit app.

Development in close coordination

Identitas AG developed e-transit in close coordination with traders and transporters, label organisations, Bell Switzerland AG, and the Veterinary Office of the Canton of Solothurn. The apps were tested in practice by animal keepers and livestock transport drivers. Various cantonal committees and the Swiss Animal Protection accompanied the project.

The Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) and the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) welcome this important step towards the digitalisation of animal transport and agriculture. "Double data entries are avoided, the administrative burden for the actors involved is reduced, and at the same time, traceability in the event of an epidemic is improved."

Innovative ideas could also be taken into account, for example, label inspections can now be carried out directly by animal keepers in the TVD app. This can replace label stickers and paper certificates. In addition, animal keepers can recognise before delivery if certain labelling guidelines are not met.

Gradual expansion

Currently, e-transit is available for cattle transports between animal keepers and deliveries to the new slaughterhouse of Bell Switzerland AG in Oensingen. The use of e-transit is voluntary. It is important that all parties work with the TVD app or e-transit app. Further slaughterhouses are to be integrated step by step. The interfaces are open for other systems.
