Job description
The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva benefits from a rewarding multicultural dynamic to which it contributes through its mandates: teaching, research and its partnership with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG).
The Department of Fundamental Neurosciences of the Faculty of Medicine is at the heart of the neuroscience community in Geneva, with a team of 16 research groups spread over two campuses - the University Medical Centre (CMU) and the Campus Biotech. The research teams explore brain function, from molecules to neurons and circuits, using cellular and animal models as well as human subjects, with the long-term goal of understanding the neural bases of human behaviour in health and disease.
For projects on the study of brain development and to strengthen its team, the developmental neurobiology and plasticity laboratory of the Department of Fundamental Neurosciences of the Faculty of Medicine is looking for a:
Assistant Professor at 100%
The appointed person will contribute to the development and implementation of research projects in developmental neuroscience, with a central role in coordinating experimental activities, academic and technical supervision, as well as in producing and valorising high-impact scientific results.
Main tasks:
- Ensure the scientific and operational coordination of research projects, in close interaction with team members and external collaborators
- Actively contribute to the supervision and training of students (master's, doctoral), supporting their scientific and methodological development
- Participate in experimental design and the development of competitive research projects (national and international grants)
- Design, implement and supervise advanced experimental approaches, including in vivo and/or in vitro models
- Develop, optimise and apply quantitative analysis methods, including multi-omics data integration
- Ensure the analysis, interpretation and robustness of experimental data in a rigorous and reproducible approach
- Write and publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to the preparation of funding applications
- Present scientific results at conferences and meetings at local, national and international levels
Required qualifications and skills
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in molecular biology, neuroscience
- Minimum 5 years postdoctoral experience
- Scientific expertise in the following areas:
- Expertise in gene regulation and neurodevelopment
- Strong experience in single-cell sequencing technologies (single-cell RNA-seq and/or ATAC-seq)
- Mastery of genetic perturbation approaches (CRISPRi/a, CRISPR-Cas9) and lineage tracing techniques by barcoding
- Experience with in vivo models (mouse) and/or in vitro (human brain organoids)
- Skills in molecular and cellular biology, including molecular cloning techniques
- Experience in large-scale omics data analysis
- Bioinformatics skills (R, Python or equivalent tools)
- Ability to integrate experimental and computational approaches
- Certification in animal experimentation (module 1) with technical expertise including notably in utero electroporation and stereotaxic injections
