Description of the office
Lay judges hold a part-time judicial office and have judicial decision-making powers ( Art. 4 JG ). They are summoned as needed by the authority concerned. Lay judges receive meeting fees according to Art. 79a JR . Lay judges are elected by the Grand Council upon recommendation of the Judicial Council. The Judicial Council advertises the judicial offices for application to the Grand Council ( Art. 12 JG ).
Desired profile
- The Judicial Council is looking for a person who has the necessary time availability to attend meetings during the day
- Residence in the relevant judicial district (Saane District)
- Voting rights in cantonal matters. Foreign nationals must hold a residence permit and have lived in the canton for at least five years. There must be no loss certificates against the persons. They must not have been criminally convicted of acts incompatible with the judicial office
- Proficiency in German or French with very good knowledge of the other language
