About the job
Storage technologies make an important contribution to efficiently utilising the energy generation of heat pumps. They also ensure that the operation of the heat pumps is optimised and their service life is extended. In the provision of hot water, drinking water hygiene is of great importance. OCHSNER storage tanks and accessories ensure that the heat pump can be combined with the best possible storage from the OCHSNER range. The technology is factory-tested and perfectly coordinated.
Hot water storage with heat pumps: The advantages
Heat pump buffer tanks as well as heat pump hot water storage tanks play an important role in the use of electricity from renewable energies. Large dimensioned storage tanks make it possible to build up a heat reserve during electricity surpluses, for example in sunshine. The heat is available for later use, for example at night or in overcast conditions. This is already worthwhile today for the optimal use of electricity from one’s own photovoltaic system. In the future, households will be able to better use and buffer electricity from smart grids, the planned intelligent power networks.
More efficiency & comfort through heat pump storage
Perfectly designed and dimensioned storage technology improves efficiency and comfort in heating and hot water preparation. It increases the service life of the heat pump and contributes to the optimised use of electricity from renewable energies.
Heat pump buffer tanks, also known as separation tanks or energy storage tanks, absorb heat, store it with low loss and keep it ready for use in the heating system. They ensure a consistent heat supply and extend the service life of the heat pump compressor by significantly reducing the switching cycles. Bivalent or multivalent supply from different heat sources is also possible as a result.
OCHSNER separation tanks use stratified charging storage technology: this is based on the fact that warm water has less density than cold water and therefore lies at the top. It is optimised to prevent mixing of the temperature layers. This ensures that sufficient warm water is available even when the storage tank has only a low charge.
OCHSNER heat pump buffer tanks are optimally matched to the heat pump with large connection dimensions.
OCHSNER fresh hot water heater Unifresh®
The fresh hot water heater OCHSNER Unifresh® combines a buffer tank with a fresh water coil. It can be used as a pure hot water heater or as a hot water station and buffer tank for heating. The supply can come from the heat pump and bivalently, for example from heat pump and boiler. The extended spiral corrugated stainless steel pipe has a large surface area for domestic water preparation and ensures a high flow rate. Since warm drinking water is always freshly prepared in this process, there are no hygienic burdens on the drinking water from legionella. Connection options for several heat generators and heating systems, thermometers, sensors and electric heating rods are provided.
OCHSNER Unifresh® uses the principle of the stratified charging storage tank to reliably supply warm water even with a low storage charge.
OCHSNER heat pumps with hot water storage & buffer tanks
Heat pump hot water storage tanks are a sensible addition to a heating heat pump that is also intended to ensure hot water supply. The heated domestic water is kept ready in an external storage tank, independent of the heating system or a heating separation tank. The OCHSNER hot water storage tanks meet the requirements for drinking water safety and legionella protection.
OCHSNER ensures with appropriate heating control that the hot water storage tank is always preferentially supplied with warm domestic water.
The most common questions about heat pump storage tanks
In principle, a heat pump can also be operated without a storage tank if it can operate modulatingly. Underfloor heating, for example, is also a heat store to a limited extent. However, storage technology increases efficiency. In addition, the operation of the heat pump can be optimised, for example for the use of electricity from renewable energies. The less interrupted operation also increases the service life of the compressor in the heat pump.
This question cannot be answered generally as it strongly depends on the system, the building and the hot water demand. Your OCHSNER system partner can advise you.
Heat storage tanks and improvements to existing heat storage tanks are subsidised via the BAFA programme for heating renovation. Here is the link to the funding information.
