About the role: You join an existing team responsible for operating and continuously improving a large-scale, business-critical application server landscape (~50 × 4 instances) based on JBoss, Apache and Tomcat. The focus of this role is exclusively on the application server layer—provisioning, patching and lifecycle management of the underlying VMs and operating system is not part of this role and is handled by a dedicated Linux team, with whom you collaborate closely at the defined interface.

Your Tasks:

• Operate, configure and further develop the ~50 × 4 application server instances (JBoss, Apache, Tomcat)—VM and OS operations are not part of this role
• Manage deployments, connectors, datasources, clustering, load balancing and SSL certificates
• Analyze incidents and provide 2nd / 3rd level support—including log analysis, heap dumps and stack traces
• Read and interpret Java code to diagnose environment-related issues in collaboration with the Java Developer
• Coordinate with the Linux team on maintenance windows, VM sizing and cross-layer troubleshooting
• Drive automation and scripting to optimize application server operations

Your Profile:

• Several years of experience as a System Engineer with a clear focus on application servers (JBoss / WildFly, Apache HTTPD, Tomcat)
• Deep understanding of middleware configuration, logging, performance, security and clustering
• Solid Linux skills and scripting experience (Bash, Python, Ansible) for automation at the application server level—VM and OS administration are not required
• Basic Java skills—able to read and follow code without being a developer
• Experience with monitoring tools, logging stacks and performance analysis
• Business fluency in English

Nice to have

• Familiarity with enterprise security concepts (WAF, IAM, LDAP, SAML)
• Experience with firewall rules and network architectures
• Azure / Cloud Platforms
• German is an advantage
