The candidate will work in the field of the Old Testament, in which he or she is a specialist. Expertise in the areas of historical and critical exegesis and hermeneutics of the Old Testament is essential. A solid knowledge of the various texts that make up the corpus of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, as well as the history and culture of ancient Israel and Judaism, is required. The person must be able to lead a research team and work in synergy with the teaching staff of the Faculty of Theology of Geneva. He or she collaborates with the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies (FTSR) of the University of Lausanne, and with the Romand Institute of Biblical Sciences (IRSB), of which he or she is a member. He or she also collaborates with members of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Geneva.
Teaching: a minimum of 6 hours of teaching for basic training (Bachelor, Master) including courses and seminars, both in person and remotely. Teaching is mainly delivered on the University of Geneva campus, but also at the University of Lausanne. Furthermore, the candidate will provide advanced training courses (doctoral programmes, CUSO) and may, if applicable, participate in or lead a continuing education programme. Teaching is delivered in French. The ability to teach, at least eventually, in English is essential.
Research: the candidate demonstrates excellent research in the field of the position profile, confirmed by scientific publications and original projects. He or she will develop research in interaction with local, national and international academic research centres. Moreover, he or she will submit research projects to national (FNS) and international bodies.
Public service: the candidate will be involved in the community: ecclesiastical circles, media, conferences, committees, etc.
Administrative duties: the candidate will be called upon to assume administrative tasks within the Faculty, the University and interfaculty bodies.
Required Title and Competences
Required title and experience: Doctorate in Theology or equivalent qualification. University teaching and research experience in the field of the position.
Languages: excellent command of French (working language). Very good knowledge of English and German. Excellent command of Biblical Hebrew and good knowledge of Septuagint Greek. Knowledge of other ancient Near Eastern languages is an asset (Aramaic, Ugaritic, etc.).

Teaching takes place primarily at the University of Geneva campus, but also at the University of Lausanne. In addition, the candidate will teach advanced training courses (doctoral programmes, CUSO) and may, if necessary, participate in or lead a continuing education programme. Since the language for most courses is French, this language is required right from the start. The ability to eventually teach in English is indispensable.
