Hospital Specialist, Senior Physician or Head of Emergency Department? You Decide How Much Responsibility You Take On

That is precisely why this position is deliberately designed to be flexible: depending on experience and interest, entry as a hospital specialist, senior physician, or head of emergency medicine is possible.

You work in an acute hospital in the beautiful mountain region of the Bernese Oberland. The region combines a high quality of life with a wide range of leisure activities and attracts both locals and holidaymakers all year round. Accordingly, the clinical routine is also varied.

The interdisciplinary 24-hour emergency department ensures medical care and treats around 6,000 emergency patients annually. The spectrum ranges from internal medicine and surgical conditions to trauma cases as well as gynaecological and psychiatric emergencies.

Thanks to the manageable size of the location, you experience a way of working that has become rare in many places: short distances, direct communication, and close exchange with nursing, internal medicine, and surgical specialties. At the same time, you benefit from access to the specialists of a larger hospital network when more complex issues arise.

Your tasks:

Depending on your level of experience and role, you take on different responsibilities:

• Care and treatment of internal medicine and surgical emergency patients
• Initial assessment, diagnostics, and initiation of therapy
• Collaboration with internal medicine, surgery, trauma surgery, visceral surgery, gynaecology, and psychiatry
• Supervision and training of assistant doctors
• Active involvement in shaping processes and workflows in the emergency department
• Assuming professional leadership duties if applicable
• Participation in specialist on-call duties

Your competencies:

• Specialist title in General Internal Medicine
• Advantageous: further training in Clinical Emergency Medicine SGNOR or comparable qualification
• Experience in an interdisciplinary emergency department
• Enjoyment of independent work and broad acute medicine
• Interest in training and knowledge transfer
• Leadership interest for candidates at senior physician or management level
• Very good German language skills
