About the job
The Europabrücke is to be maintained for the coming decades. The work includes analyses in a highly complex and traffic-intensive area adjacent to the motorway and in front of the city’s metering point. The Europabrücke is one of the few cross axes before the Limmattal and is of great importance for cycling traffic with a main connection and a preferred cycle route over the bridge. The routing method for cycling traffic must be implemented in a limited space and according to the cycling standards of the city of Zurich. Conflicts with pedestrian traffic must be resolved. Traffic safety is a major issue, especially at the junctions, and requires effective, partly unconventional measures that must be closely coordinated with the client. Capacity must be demonstrated with static and dynamic proofs (VISSIM). Cycling traffic is integrated into the traffic light control and optimised in terms of directness and travel time. Separate signals for cycling traffic are to be examined and the green phases optimised in the traffic light control to be developed. The existing junction area is to be resized and the gained space allocated to cycling traffic.
Traffic flow simulation (VISSIM)
VISSIM is simulation software for modelling inner-city and outer-city traffic as well as motorway traffic. In addition to pedestrian and cycling traffic and motorised individual traffic (MIV), rail-bound and road-bound public transport (PT) can also be modelled. With this planning tool of the traffic engineer, we advise clients on the technical feasibility of future projects.
