We are seeking a motivated student to assist with our research on teamwork in the operating (OR), specifically on the detection of stress and emotional events during surgical procedures, based on video and audio recordings.
We are a multicisciplinary team consisting of work psychologists, surgeons, and data scientists. Your main work site will be the University Hospital Bern, department of visceral surgery.
Tasks
- Preprocess and clean audio recordings (e.g., denoising, segmentation)
- Apply automatic speech recognition (ASR) and speaker diarization (e.g., Whisper)
- Extract acoustic features (e.g., pitch, MFCCs) and linguistic features from audio
- Develop and evaluate machine learning models for emotion and stress detection
- Visualization of results for publishing journals
Requirements
Technical Requirements:
- Solid programming skills in Python (e.g., numpy, pandas, scikit-learn)
- Basic experience with audio or speech processing (e.g., librosa, pyannotate)
- basic understanding of natural language processing (NL) (e.g., spaCy, stanza)
Personal Requirements:
- intrinsic motivation to work in a multidisciplinary project
- capacity to communicate with the research team
