About the job
Position Purpose
Senior Scientist with high level of experience in protein analysis to characterize a variety of therapeutic proteins.
The incumbent applies a strong technical background in biomolecules characterization by LC-MS techniques to exciting interdisciplinary projects working in a collaborative team environment on state-of-the-art instrumentations. He/she will partner with other Scientists to develop fit-for-purpose analytical assays, direct workflows and provide technical support and training to enable critical process decision-making and support continuous drug development activities.
In this position, high level of knowledge of mass spectroscopy techniques is essential to deliver phase appropriate analytical assays and to support enhanced product characterization. The Senior Scientist will contribute to translate innovative platforms and new technologies into fully developed, possibly automated methods.
Scientific enthusiasm, creativity, hands-on lab experience and commitment will be essential for the successful achievement of team and organizational goals and timelines.
Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities
• Responsible for designing and performing experiments as well as for interpreting results from MS-based techniques to support characterization of new plasma-derived product and commercialized product.
• Development and implementation of novel analytical methods according to analytic quality by design principles and phase-appropriate qualification according to project and product demands.
• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for mass spectrometry related topics to provide scientific leadership and guidance to multiple projects and for evaluation and implementation of new technologies.
• Make effective use of resources (time, people, equipment and materials). Provide appropriate feedback to other team members.
• Author lab procedures, protocols, reports and SOPs for internal and/or external partners.
• Present at internal and external seminars and conferences.
• Responsible for instruments operation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
• Collaborate with group members and cross functional teams to support analytical studies, process development, and other studies.
• Ensure close collaboration with other local and global CSL functions across the proper network.
Education
• Postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in biological sciences, biophysics or analytical chemistry.
Experience
• 3+ years of biopharmaceutical industry experience in the field of biomolecule characterization by LC-MS approaches.
• Experience in the development of LC-MS methods, optimization, and phase-appropriate qualification, applying analytical quality-by-design principles.
• Advanced expertise in LC-MS–based bioanalytics for protein and peptide characterization, in particular in high-resolution MS (e.g., Orbitrap platforms).
• Strong experience with peptide mapping, intact and subunit mass analysis, and Multi-Attribute Methods (MAM).
• In-depth knowledge of post-translational modification (PTM) analysis, including glycosylation, deamidation, oxidation, and C-terminal variants.
• Expertise in data evaluation, interpretation, and reporting of complex LC-MS datasets to support decision-making in R&D and technical development.
• Experience with additional bioanalytical workflows, particularly LC separation techniques (e.g., RP-LC, SEC, IEX, CE) is considered a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience and knowledge in the operation and maintenance of different types of instruments.
• Good understanding of scientific process, including hypothesis development and experimental design (DoE) with ability to capture and record complex scientific data accurately and reliably.
Competencies
• Strong expertise in biomolecule characterization using LC-MS approaches.
• Advanced technical knowledge of mass spectrometry techniques and analytical assay development.
• Ability to interpret complex analytical datasets and support scientific decision-making.
• Strong scientific problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in interdisciplinary and cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational, documentation and reporting skills.
• Scientific enthusiasm, creativity and hands-on laboratory mindset.
• Proficient English verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical support, guidance and training to other scientists and team members.
