Care
Certified nurse at the Pediatric Mobile Support Unit
The specialized Pediatric Mobile Support Unit (UMAPS) is looking for a certified nurse, with a workload between 80% - 100%, from April 1 to December 31, 2026.
Context
The Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) is one of the five Swiss university hospitals. Thanks to its collaboration with the Faculty of Biology and Medicine of the University of Lausanne and EPFL, CHUV plays a leading role in medical care, medical research, and education.
UMAPS's mission is to support and assist the child and their family by considering bio-psycho-socio-spiritual dimensions, in complex situations related to palliative care. The focus is on maintaining the child's comfort and preserving their quality of life, as well as that of their family.
The cantonal and extra-cantonal mobile unit also offers advice and training to frontline teams caring for children or adolescents, regardless of their place of residence or care. It can intervene throughout the care pathway, complementing curative care, in end-of-life situations, or temporarily during an acute crisis.
Mission
- You contribute to improving palliative care for children living in the canton of Vaud or followed at CHUV, respecting the care practices of each institution and the recommendations of good practices in palliative care
- You play a role of support and accompaniment for children followed by the team and their families
- You intervene as an expert in nursing care in pediatric palliative care, in close connection with care teams, specialist doctors, referring doctors, pediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, spiritual caregivers, and psycho-socio-educational teams
- You strengthen the interdisciplinary approach to care, develop network work, guide patient follow-up, and coordinate care management
- You support, advise, and train frontline teams, whether in hospital settings, at home, or in institutions, in their pediatric palliative care approach
- You participate in the acculturation of pediatric care teams to the palliative approach.
This is a consultancy activity, which in most situations does not include direct care for children and their families.
Profile
- You hold a Bachelor in nursing (or an equivalent recognized title) with Red Cross recognition (mandatory)
- You ideally hold training in palliative care (CAS, DAS, DU, DIU, etc.)
- You are able to handle complex care and end-of-life situations
- You have experience in pediatrics or neonatology, ideally 5 years
- You ideally have experience in palliative care or in the field of multiple disabilities in pediatrics
- You master or have a good knowledge of the Vaud health network (an asset)
- You possess excellent communication skills and are comfortable in interpersonal relationships (interdisciplinary work, sensitive announcements, meetings)
- You are recognized for your empathy, discretion, humility, and diplomacy
- You are able to manage value conflicts and face ethical dilemmas
- You demonstrate commitment, professional rigor, and a strong sense of responsibility
- You have good analytical and synthesis skills, a strong sense of organization, and priority management
- You are proactive, show initiative, adaptability, and autonomy
- You are flexible (24/7 on-call service)
- You have a driving license and a private vehicle.
We offer
- A varied activity, focused on personalized care for the child and their family
- A referent role combining clinical and extra-clinical dimensions within a small dynamic medical-nursing team.
Becoming a collaborator of the Lausanne University Hospital means benefiting from:
- Top-level social benefits, 20 days paternity leave, and 4 months maternity leave (with the possibility of an additional month of breastfeeding leave)
- Regular salary progression adapted to responsibilities
- A 13th salary and 25 days of vacation per year
- A right to at least three days of training per year, with access to a varied offer within the CHUV Training Center and partner training centers of the State of Vaud
- Facilitated access to one of the 500 furnished apartments offered in the surrounding neighborhoods for people relocating to Switzerland from abroad
- Social, cultural, and economic benefits offered to members of the H-Oxygène association
- Benefits offered within the mobility plan (discounts on public transport subscriptions, promotion of "Mobility" vehicles, and discounts on electric bike purchases)
- Quality staff restaurants in each hospital building with preferential rates.
