About the job
The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum houses over 100 historic residential and agricultural buildings from all regions of Switzerland. Each tells its own story. The staff demonstrate living crafts, tend the fields, gardens and animals in the museum. The museum conveys the history and diversity of rural farming Switzerland and the lives of people up to the 20th century.
As part of a succession plan, we are looking for an employee for operations and infrastructure (workshop) 80% to 100% from 1 September 2026 or by arrangement.
You will organise the workshop and manage the operating materials. You ensure the maintenance of the company vehicles, the museum railway and historic equipment. You support the daily museum operations with logistical tasks such as transport, waste disposal, setup and dismantling work, car park management, maintenance work, caretaking and also take turns on the on-call duty, occasionally on weekends. Your workplace is located in Hofstetten near Brienz.
To meet these responsibilities, you bring a basic craft training and practical experience, preferably in vehicle mechanics or general mechanics. You are willing to continue your education and are interested in the history of rural building, traditional crafts and find it exciting to work in a unique museum and excursion destination. Teamwork, a structured and tidy working method are self-evident for you. You live in the vicinity of the open-air museum.
