Deputy Head of Winterthur Prison 80 - 100%Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and employs around 1,400 staff with diverse professional profiles. JuWe is responsible for criminal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For JuWe employees, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The main department for remand prisons Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for remand and security detention. One of these facilities is Winterthur Prison (GFW), which manages its tasks with a staff of around 49 employees and offers space for 92 detainees and 9 places for provisional arrest.
From 1 October 2026 or by agreement, we are looking for a committed and experienced leader who will take responsibility as Deputy Head of the Prison and actively shape the operation.
This is your field of activity
- You support the prison management in professional and organisational matters and contribute to a resource- and development-oriented design of remand detention
- You provide orientation and, together with the GFW management team, live a respectful and potential-oriented leadership and collaboration culture
- Your professional focus is on maintaining and strengthening the personal and social resources of the detainees. You ensure that they are treated with respect, humanity and professionalism
- You actively participate in specific projects and contribute committedly to their implementation
- As a member of the UGZ executive management, you actively shape the further development of remand detention
- You maintain a constructive and trusting collaboration with internal and external partners
Your profile
- In addition to a completed education in the legal, social or psychiatric field, you have qualifications in leadership, process or organisational management
- You have several years of experience in correctional services or a comparable sector
- Your high social competence, emotional stability, as well as your initiative and ability to work in a team distinguish you
- You combine strategic and networked thinking with pronounced implementation strength and decision-making ability in close cooperation with the prison director
- You are mentally resilient and on-call duty is compatible with your other commitments
- You have an impeccable reputation (no entries in the criminal record or debt enforcement register)
