The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) is looking for a versatile and proactive experimental mechanic for the research workshop at the Swiss Plasma Center, which is located on the grounds of the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen.
We are one of the leading European laboratories for superconducting magnets and are involved in the globally coordinated development of fusion reactors. Our laboratory operates one of the largest superconducting test facilities in the world, with a second one currently under construction. This includes a workshop for sample production and preparation.
To complement our 20-member team, we are looking for an experienced and versatile candidate starting immediately.
Your Tasks
- Development and construction of superconducting samples, devices, and auxiliary tools
- Construction and adjustments of experimental devices with various technological requirements
- Versatile assembly and manual work, soldering, welding, turning (no CNC), milling (no CNC)
- Device construction, experimental setups, vacuum technology, cryotechnology
- Development, optimization, and documentation
- Construction and adjustments of experimental devices with various technological requirements
Your Profile
You have completed vocational training as a polymechanic, mechanic, or possibly as an electromechanic and have several years of professional experience. Your further training complements your experience in several of the following areas: welding technology, soldering technology, assembly technology, vacuum technology, superconducting magnet technologies.
You cover a wide range of manual skills. You have fine motor skills and improvisational talent. You have experience in the development and construction of individual devices according to customer requirements.
You work independently, are versatile, flexible, and interested in new things. You are willing to collaborate in a small international team and have good German language skills.
