The Aiglonnes and Aiglons say YES to the credit request for the redevelopment of the town centre
With 1,725 YES and 1,066 NO votes, and a turnout of 36.58%, the population of Aigle has overwhelmingly accepted the project of the Municipality and the Municipal Council for the redevelopment of Place du Marché, Rue Plantour and Avenue Chevron.
On Sunday 30 November, the result of the popular vote indicates that the new town centre redevelopment project was widely endorsed by the residents of Aigle, who were invited for the second time to vote following a referendum.
In April 2024, the first version of the town centre redevelopment project did not receive sufficient support in the municipal vote on 7 April 2024. Approved with 43 votes to 3 by the Municipal Council on 26 June 2025, the new version of the project, the result of broad consensus among all parties represented on the Municipal Council and the representatives of the referendum committee, managed to convince the citizens of Aigle.
With a cost of CHF 5,914,526.90 charged to the Municipality, of which CHF 1,900,000 will be co-financed by the Confederation, the new town centre redevelopment project provides for a series of essential improvements to the attractiveness of the town, community life and the ever more pressing challenges of climate change.
The Municipality is pleased with this result which will finally allow the Municipality to provide itself with a town centre worthy of its residents and a district capital, addressing social issues as well as economic, technical and climatic challenges.
