About the job
What to expect
With your positive personality, you not only shape an engineering culture and organization but actively influence the e-commerce of tomorrow. You lead six committed, cross-functional product teams and are jointly responsible with them for scalable solutions that have a real impact for our customers and central processes in the company.
- You will have a lot of creative freedom and the chance to sustainably shape an engineering organization, from working methods to technology and architectural decisions to the further development of teams and leaders.
- You coach, develop, and empower the team leads in your area with humanity, clarity, and sensitivity so that they can independently lead effective teams and deliberately develop roles, responsibilities, and decision-making scopes.
- Together with the Head of Product, you design product-oriented and agile development processes, keep the focus on business goals, and establish a data-informed way of working.
- You work in appropriate forms of Scrum or Kanban. Engineers actively contribute to refinements, architectural questions, and product discussions.
- Together with the Enterprise Architect, you shape the software architecture of the entire area and bring your perspective into the technical conception.
- Yes, we also have enough legacy. This is part of the exciting challenge. You navigate technical trade-offs confidently, make pragmatic decisions, actively shape the future with a lot of implementation power, and keep the can-do spirit alive in the team.
- You are part of the technology leadership team and, together with your peers, shape the strategic direction and technical vision of the entire engineering organization.
What you bring
You strongly identify with a culture where
- technical full-stack thinking, pair programming, whiteboard sessions, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD with multiple productive releases per day are normal. Teams take real end-to-end responsibility in the sense of "You build it, you run it."
- servant leadership, benevolent feedback, and the targeted development of people and organizations belong together.
- product works closely with engineering, wants to understand problems in depth, lives true agility, relies on MVPs, short iterations, and fast learning, and consistently makes decisions from the user and business perspective.
We are a good fit if you
- have experience in domains such as purchasing, product data, logistics, or ERP or are generally well versed in the environment of business applications and e-commerce
- not only know the described culture but live it, coach it, anchor it in the organization, and contribute to a strong team culture with appreciative communication, warmth, and a good dose of humor
- are a great coach and role model for the team leads and organization.
- approach complex topics with perseverance and resilience and are perceived as a motivating beacon even in demanding situations.
- define the AI tooling strategy, create the architectural prerequisites, and establish best software practices, for example through automated code reviews. Tools like GitHub Copilot or Claude Code are effectively used in your teams' daily work.
- understand concepts like DDD, Clean Architecture, Event-Driven Architecture, SOLID, Feature Flags, or Dependency Injection as tools that you establish structurally in the organization. At the same time, you have a solid understanding of distributed systems and DevOps practices.
- lead data-driven: deployment frequency, lead time, and incident recovery are signals, not goals for you. You understand OKRs as a tool to exert targeted influence.
- have at least 10 years of experience in modern software development, including at least 2 years in a leadership role
- speak German and English
We probably don't fit well if you
- prefer frameworks like SAFe or think in classic project structures and specifications
- have mainly worked in highly regulated environments and have little experience in fast, product-oriented organizations with large distributed systems
- feel more comfortable in role models where infrastructure, backend, frontend, testing, and product thinking are strictly separated
- prefer to receive requirements finished rather than sharpening them together with product management and truly understanding customers
- do not have an insatiable thirst for knowledge to continuously learn new things
- are more frustrated than motivated by imperfect systems - spoiler: we are not there yet
- strictly separate work and good mood
Benefits
