Ensuring electricity in Switzerland
In this exciting position, you will independently drive the expansion of functionalities in the area of decision support for real-time operation and advance planning of the transmission network. You will encounter the following tasks:
- Independent planning and coordination of tasks within the scope of functionality expansion of decision support (load flow, outage analysis, optimal power flow, etc.)
- Getting to know the application cases of mathematical optimization in the transmission network
- Getting to know the network operation concepts (voltage control, network security, etc.) of Swissgrid
- Developing pragmatic solutions for decision support in the transmission network
- Participating in the project from day one, supported by various specialists

For this versatile internship, we are looking for a personality with high motivation and an independent, analytical working style. In addition, you bring the following:
- Student in engineering sciences (e.g., electrical engineering, energy technology, control engineering, operations research or comparable), ideally with a bachelor's degree, with an overall understanding of the electricity industry and open to interdisciplinary activities
- First experience in the areas of transmission network modeling and/or mathematical optimization
- Proficient in handling data and programming skills (MATLAB, Python or comparable)
- Very good German or English skills

The Business Unit Market is the operational hub of Swissgrid. The experienced professionals are responsible for grid operation and markets for system services. They also operate congestion management at the Swiss borders and actively shape the electricity market development in Switzerland and Europe. At the heart of the Swiss electricity supply, the Swissgrid Control control center, various teams monitor and control the power flows in the grid around the clock.
Our Operational Decision Support team is responsible for the development and operation of applications for operational decision support, in close cooperation with the internal IT.
