Child Development and Montessori Pedagogy: A Bridge between Science and Practice
Montessori pedagogy is a Help for Life, but how does this life develop and why?
Providing a scientific insight into child development allows the pedagogy to be used with a solid foundation and deep understanding, enabling one to go beyond "doing" and embrace "being".
We will address the central elements of child development, mixing theory and small experiments to internalise the understandings.
Who is Solange Denervaud?
Solange obtained a BSc. and an MSc. in Bioengineering at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in 2013. She completed her doctorate in neuroscience at CHUV-UNIL, in collaboration with the Swiss Centre for Affective Sciences (CISA-UNIGE), linking neuroscience and education (2014-2020). This interest arose from her initial teacher training in a Montessori school (2003-2007). Solange’s research focuses on the impact of the learning environment on the development of central adaptation mechanisms (i.e. error control, cognitive flexibility, creativity, peer learning) in schoolchildren and adolescents. Recently, she has been interested in the convergence of cardiac and brain signals to study adaptation processes in adults. Her work involves a combination of psychophysics, neuropsychology, electroencephalography (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Since October 2023, Solange has been the head of the flagship CIBM project which unites the various expertise and techniques of CIBM within a large research project aiming to push the boundaries of education.
