Successful Apprenticeship Completion of Meriton Osmanaj

A few weeks ago, we reported here on the apprenticeship completion of Mehmet Memedoski. Today, we dare to take a look into the apprenticeship period of Meriton Osmanaj. He too was able to successfully complete his apprenticeship as a heating installer with a Federal VET Diploma, to which we warmly congratulate him once again at this point.

Hello Meriton, congratulations on successfully completing your apprenticeship. How are you?

Very well, thank you. I am simply happy that everything went so well and that after the whole examination phase I have regained most of my usual freedoms.

We believe you. Tell us, what tasks remain after passing vocational school?

My daily tasks include pressing stainless steel pipes, as well as welding and connecting pipe sections. In addition, I am responsible for installing underfloor heating and cellar distribution systems.

No offence, I am just imagining you sitting in the cellar all day and having to put on sunglasses when you go home in the evening (laughs).

You are not the first. I also had to first educate my friends on what exactly a heating installer does.

I get up every day at 6:00 am and get ready for work. I have to be on site by 7:00 am. Usually, I pick up my work where it ended the day before. After my vocational school day, I used to coordinate with the site supervisor to clarify which pending tasks were outstanding. Of course, that is no longer necessary now. Priorities play a very important role in our work, so we still frequently coordinate which tasks need to be done next. In other words, we tackle the areas where the shoe pinches. My daily routine is never the same; I benefit from very varied work. Accordingly, I rarely sit in the cellar (laughs).

Can you be a bit more specific about what you appreciate about your work?

That people would have to freeze without me (laughs). I like the variety between welding and pressing in my profession. The versatility makes the job unique, and that is exactly what I appreciate so much. In addition, I find the exchange and coordination between trades such as plasterers, painters, carpenters, etc., extremely exciting.

How should one imagine the educational process? Did you simply have talent, or is it hard-earned craftsmanship?

At first, welding was very difficult. You have to understand, if you make a mistake, it is difficult to fix. You always have to be fully focused and work with concentration. With the renovations increasingly carried out in Basel, you practically have no leeway. That means you work very closely together and the work must be executed perfectly.

And what are you doing now with your freedoms? Are there further plans?

I want to work as a heating installer on construction sites for 2-3 years initially. Afterwards, my goal is to complete training as a chief installer and later the master craftsman training.

So you have a clear idea of how things should proceed. Would you also recommend this path via the heating installer Federal VET Diploma?

Definitely. I liked working independently and responsibly from early on. I enjoy this freedom and look forward to an exciting future, also with regard to renewable energies.
