Refrigeration technicians help in the creation of cooling systems, air conditioning systems, and other refrigeration systems. They create and install pipelines and the associated components. Maintenance of existing systems is also part of their tasks. For old systems, they replace or dismantle the parts and dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner.

Requirements

I am fit and resilient. The job is physically demanding. Refrigeration technicians must also be willing to work at odd hours or on weekends after their training.

I work independently and have good manners. Refrigeration technicians often have customer contact and must pay attention to proper appearance. Often they are alone at the work site, so they need confidence and independence.

I am skilled with my hands and can work precisely. Refrigeration technicians need manual skills to assemble and process the system components with tools and machines.

I quickly understand technical processes and can listen well. Refrigeration technicians must also find solutions for demanding technical problems under time pressure.

I am interested in mathematics and physics. Those just starting their vocational training do not need to be familiar with thermodynamics or hydraulics yet – but a keen interest in mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering as well as good grades in these subjects are important.

Specialized Instruction

All German-speaking Swiss refrigeration technicians attend specialized instruction at the vocational school in St. Gallen for one day a week.

Inter-company Courses (ÜK)

Introduction to assembly, basics of assembly, and advanced assembly at the Swiss Technical School in Winterthur.
