Nathaniel Williams seeks in his podcast the broader lines of historical human development. He talks about the discovery of central perspective and uses the book ‹The Discovery of Heaven› by the Dutch author Harry Mulisch as a description.

The book deals with the idea that the bridge between Earth and the spiritual world is disturbed because humanity is developing negatively. The spirits therefore want to dissolve the covenant with humanity. This very serious-sounding topic is, however, developed humorously in the book. With central perspective, space and time become ‹natural›, so that God no longer finds a place in paintings. This is the beginning of the end of eternity. Then Nathaniel Williams follows the thought of the Russian philosopher Pavel Florensky, according to whom painters with central perspective were no longer concerned with showing reality, but rather the illusion of reality.
