Your Tasks
- We are looking for a person who teaches German linguistics in the German subject at Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate levels.
- The professorship is also essential for the future interdisciplinary Bachelor’s program Language and Communication, the interdisciplinary Master’s program Language and Communication, as well as for the Doctoral program Linguistics (Hermann Paul School of Linguistics Basel-Freiburg).
- The professorship strengthens empirical linguistics as well as digital methodologies and research approaches of Basel linguistics.
- The teaching offer planning is coordinated with the professorships of the German Seminar and the Department of Linguistics and Literary Studies.
- Excellent research in the field of usage analysis of the German language considering digital methods is expected.
Your Profile
- Applicants demonstrate excellent publication and research activity following their doctorate, corresponding to their academic age.
- Applicants should strengthen and complement the Basel linguistics offerings in the field of empirical linguistics with their areas of work.
- The focus in research and teaching should be on qualitative and/or quantitative computer-assisted methods as well as the associated pragmatic analysis of language usage patterns in contemporary language.
- Different specializations are possible, for example in the area of medial constellations (oral and written interaction, digital and mobile communication, human-machine interaction, AI-based text generation, etc.), as well as in connection with interaction analysis, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, knowledge communication, or current language change.
- Experience in teaching and willingness to teach students innovatively and practice-oriented at all levels is expected.
- Furthermore, applicants demonstrate successful acquisition of third-party funding.
- Teamwork skills and willingness to participate in university self-administration are assumed as a matter of course.
