You can contribute to this role

• Ensure personnel, technical and financial team leadership
• Operate and further develop data platforms, as well as participate in on-call duty
• Develop and administer typical components such as databases, ETL tools, query engines, API gateways and backend applications on premises and in the cloud
• Be responsible for requirements analysis, specification, modelling, system design, development, testing, integration of workflows, interfaces and services on Linux/Unix/Windows in the backend area
• Develop solutions for meteorology and climatology for the integration, transformation and provision of data according to international standards (e.g. message and warning systems in air traffic)
• Develop APIs and gateways, take over and modernise existing applications and systems

What makes you unique

• Master’s degree in computer science or business informatics as well as several years of experience with data management systems in the cloud (AWS) and in own data centre (Unix/Linux)
• Confident handling of data pipelines and ETL products such as Pentaho, FME, with database products such as PostgreSQL, Oracle
• Scripting or programming skills with AI support desirable (e.g.: Python, Java, PL/SQL, ksh, C, R)
• Initial experience with technologies such as streaming (Kafka), Airflow, No-SQL, query engines, AI tools etc. is an advantage
• Structured working according to ITIL processes with agile methods in operational business
• Very good German skills and knowledge of a second official language as well as English

The scope of this demanding position ranges from topics from science through the operational operation of the existing DWH to the agile construction of new data platforms. The stable 24×7 availability of weather and climate data is the basis for sustainable services for the well-being and protection of the Swiss population.
