With nearly 1,000 employees, the Department of Psychiatry fulfils a triple mission concerning the treatment of mental disorders, education, and research. The department's mission is to detect and effectively treat increasingly frequent and diverse pathologies while respecting patients and their relatives.
Quality teaching is also provided by the department to students as well as to doctors in training for specialist certification, raising awareness of psychological, biological, and social dimensions. The department also supports quality training in psychotherapy.
Finally, the department seeks to understand the origins of mental disorders through cognitive and affective neurosciences, a true flagship of the Geneva site. To this end, it conducts academic and clinical patient-oriented research meeting a high standard of quality.
The geriatric psychiatry service at HUG is the largest university institution in Switzerland for the care of psychiatric illnesses in the elderly. A particular feature is the offer of an integrated postgraduate training programme in psychiatry and psychotherapy of the elderly, which also includes neurology as well as physical medicine and neurological rehabilitation.
Job Description
As part of the care of elderly patients in complex situations, you provide basic care and maintenance tasks while maintaining excellent human relations.
You also participate in organising daily activities to ensure their physical, psychological, and social well-being.
You thus provide support and assistance in patients’ daily living activities and in supporting their families.
You carry out hotel and housekeeping tasks related to the patient’s immediate environment and contribute to their safety by respecting current hygiene and asepsis rules.
You actively participate in preventing complications related to hospitalisation in collaboration with other healthcare professionals (pain, pressure sore prevention, fall prevention, etc.).
Qualifications
The geriatric psychiatry service holds a strategic position within the canton of Geneva with high demands and requirements for caring for vulnerable patients.
Holding a federal professional training certificate (AFP) as a care and support assistant (ASA) or an equivalent diploma recognised by the Red Cross, you have excellent command of French, both spoken and written.
Significant hospital experience with elderly patients with psychiatric disorders and/or cognitive disorders such as dementia or Alzheimer’s disease is a major asset. Training in these areas is also considered. Emphasis will be placed on candidates’ expertise.
You adapt quickly to changes in work pace in a complex environment with a high care load requiring very good knowledge of the characteristics and needs of this population.
You demonstrate excellent physical ability to mobilise dependent patients.
You show a sense of welcome and communication and have the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
You possess team spirit and creativity and have a sense of organisation and anticipation.
