The Position
The Legal Counsel is a key member of the VAROPreem Legal function, supporting legal service delivery across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (DACH).
We are looking for an energetic lawyer with strong attention to detail and a “can-do” commercial attitude.
The role combines independent legal advisory with close collaboration across business units, particularly in the context of VAROPreem’s growing presence in renewable energy and the broader energy transition.
Working closely with senior legal and commercial stakeholders, the Legal Counsel will manage legal matters autonomously, while contributing to the strategic and operational effectiveness of the Group Legal Department.
Prior experience in an in-house legal role is an advantage.
This role is base in Baar, Switzerland, and erports to the Senior Legal Counsel DACH.
Your Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Business Support

Provide direct legal advice to the business and all departments in the DACH region, acting as the first point of contact for operational legal queries.

Advise on a broad range of commercial, regulatory, and compliance topics across VARO’s value chain: refining, logistics, trading, biofuels, and e-mobility.

Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders and external counsel to manage risks and resolve legal issues.
Contracting & Transactions

Independently draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including supply, storage, infrastructure, and project-related contracts.

Support cross-border transactions and initiatives in both conventional and renewable energy.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk

Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable national and EU and Swiss legislation.

Support the GDPR/FADP implementation and data privacy governance.
Policies & Training

Maintain and improve contract templates, legal processes, and internal policies.

Contribute to legal awareness and training initiatives across the business.

Strong commercial and strategic mindset, with the ability to translate legal complexity into actionable and pragmatic business advice.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills across all levels of the organisation.

Fluent in German and English.

High standards of integrity, sound judgment, and a proactive approach to risk management.
Qualifications

Qualified lawyer or legal professional (minimum MLaw) with experience in Swiss or German law.

Minimum 3 years of relevant legal experience, ideally combining in-house and private practice exposure in the energy, industrial, or infrastructure sectors.
