About the job
We are Deutsche Bahn. Millions of passengers travel with us every day and we transport enormous quantities of goods – nationwide as well as in neighbouring Europe. Too often we also disappoint. That is why we are working intensively on a better railway. For that, we need power and you! We are one of the most diverse employers in Germany. Every year we look for around 5,000 trainees in 50 different training professions who want to make the railway a little better with us day by day. Join in: We offer you attractive benefits, a fixed contact person and a great team at your side. And after successful training, you have excellent chances of being taken on!
Responsibility
You want to get stuck in outside instead of sitting inside and you are fascinated by trains and technology – then training in the field of track construction is just right for you!
From 1 September 2027, we are looking for you for the 3-year training as a track layer (m/f/d) for DB InfraGO AG. You will complete your training at the practical location Basel. Your place of work is within walking distance of the station. In addition, you will attend vocational school and training workshop in alternating blocks. These are located in Ludwigshafen (Rhine). There you will be provided with a free dormitory place. Your train journeys there will also be covered by us, so that you can always go home at the weekend.
This is what awaits you in your training:
You work with your team outside on the construction sites on our tracks
Together you lay new rails and points, check everything for damage and replace broken parts
With the help of modern machines, you renew the ballast under the tracks
You pay close attention to all measurements – so that the trains run smoothly and safely later
During your training as a track layer, you are already an important part of the team and ensure every day that our trains are reliably on the move
Qualifications
Your profile:
You have (soon) successfully completed school and your school leaving certificate is recognised in Germany
Your German language skills correspond to at least the B2 language level
Sitting at a desk is not for you – you prefer to work outside
You are motivated and reliable
You enjoy teamwork and like to get stuck in
Different workplaces and working hours as well as night shifts are a welcome change for you
For this training, an aptitude test awaits you as part of the selection process. On our career page you will find out everything about the background, the procedure and the ideal preparation.
This is important to us:
Our claim is to offer all candidates the same opportunities for entry with us if they have the same aptitude. We actively promote diversity and togetherness in our teams. We appreciate every application, regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, belief, disability, age, duration of unemployment as well as sexual orientation and identity.
Legal note
Equal opportunities and self-determined participation of severely disabled persons and those with equal status as well as respectful cooperation are firmly anchored principles within the DB Group. Therefore, severely disabled and equally recognised applicants are given preferential consideration if they have the same aptitude.
