A Chip Brings the Cat Home

"We receive at least one call per week because a cat has been found. If the cat has a chip, we can immediately inform the owner. If more cats had a chip, many more cats could be returned to their owners straight away." Veterinarian Katharina Staub from Einsiedeln knows what she is talking about: As a board member of the Schwyz Animal Protection Association, she also sees that too many cats wait a long time in animal shelters for a return home. Chipped cats are spared this, and owners have certainty about the whereabouts of their favourite.

Chipping a cat is quick and practically painless. The chip is then registered in the Anis database. Veterinarians, but also animal shelters and other institutions have access to it. In addition, cat owners can easily report the loss or finding of a chipped cat via the Amici app.

Cheaper cat chipping in November

Together with the Swiss Association for Small Animal Medicine (SVK), Identitas AG is launching a campaign again this November for discounted chipping at Swiss small animal veterinarians. All you need to do is make an appointment with your pet practice in good time. The exact pricing is up to the individual practices, but a discount of around 20% can generally be expected.

With the chip through the cat flap

Chipping also brings advantages in everyday life: cat flaps with the appropriate sensor can be set so that your own cat can go in and out at freely selectable times. Foreign cats and other uninvited guests stay outside.

PHBooklet, a digital patient record

In 2023, the SVK launched the PHBooklet, a digital patient record for pets. This allows pet owners to have the most important health data of their animals always at hand on their smartphone and to share it with practices and clinics, but also with other people (e.g. dog sitters, physiotherapists or animal shelter staff).
