The training of wood industry specialists takes into account the changing requirements in the wood industry. The new training places more emphasis on the integration of further processing of sawn timber through gluing and planing, conveying plant technology, as well as IT topics and direct customer contact.

Your Training

Wood industry specialists operate and maintain state-of-the-art cutting and conveying systems. They process, dry, and store the round timber delivered from the forest. They produce boards, beams, and slats from it. As a wood industry specialist, you calculate quantities, yields, machine hours, and prices. Additionally, you advise customers on the selection of sawn timber.

Development Opportunities

• Work in the sawmill and planing mill as a highly qualified wood industry specialist with a federal certificate of competence
• Specialization with courses from vocational and technical schools, industry associations, and the Bern University of Applied Sciences for Architecture, Wood, and Construction
• Further training to become a wood specialist with a federal diploma
• With vocational maturity during or after basic training: further education to become a certified technician with a specialization in wood industry at a higher technical school
• With vocational maturity during or after basic training: Bachelor of Science (FH) in wood technology at the university of applied sciences
