"Permanent Liberation Process"
The exhibition ‹The Revealed Secret of Colour› at the Goetheanum offers an insight into the versatile work of the painter Hans Hermann until 20 July 2022. His oeuvre spans a range from naive painting through capturing the sensuous-suprasensuous in abstract images to the liberation of colour.
"The pictorial work of Hans Hermann shows the consistent search of a painter who goes his way without fear of losses and lives art as a permanent liberation process," says curator Barbara Schnetzler. In his paintings and his written work, this lifelong search for the spiritual, for the enchanted in nature and the influence of cosmic forces on life is reflected. The artist was always open to new approaches to artistically express the forces active in the world. For example, he also sought to find a way to realise his ideas through video art.
Hans Hermann was born in Pratteln, Switzerland, grew up there and developed a great interest in art and what lies behind things already in his youth. When he encountered anthroposophy in 1953, a new artistic creation began. He acquired various painting techniques and explored and practised social processes.
He exercised his diverse commitment to artistic life as a teacher at the painting school at the Goetheanum. He gave painting courses in many places and led the Section for Visual Arts at the Goetheanum from 1972 to 1986.
This exhibition shows his work for the first time as a retrospective in this comprehensive way in the art gallery at the Goetheanum.
