Important Information about Eyelid Surgery
The surgery is performed on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia in the operating room of the Vista Alpina Eye Clinic in Visp. An essential prerequisite for the surgical procedure is that any blood-thinning medications are discontinued in advance. Your Vista Alpina eye doctor will gladly inform you in detail.
Droopy / Sagging Eyelids (Blepharochalasis)
The human eyelid skin is extremely thin. With increasing age, it becomes even thinner and loses elasticity. In the upper eyelid, the sagging skin folds forward and downward at the same time.
This results in so-called droopy or sagging eyelids. Through eyelid tightening (blepharoplasty), excess tissue (skin, underlying muscle tissue, and often fat tissue) is removed.
As a result, the actual shape of the eyes comes back into view, and the patient appears fresh and rejuvenated. The Vista Alpina Eye Clinic strives to maintain the originally natural appearance of the patient's eye area.
Note on Droopy / Sagging Eyelids
We explicitly point out that we do not practice artificially looking eye surgery à la Hollywood. Our goal is to make the patient look fresher and more rested thanks to the procedure. Most procedures are performed for aesthetic reasons and are not covered by health insurance. In certain cases, the sagging eyelids are so pronounced that there is a severe restriction of the visual field. In these cases, your treating eye doctor will first submit a request for full cost coverage by the health insurance. The treatment takes only about 60 minutes for both eyes.
In the hours and days following the procedure, it is important to cool the eye regularly to ensure that swelling and bleeding heal quickly. One week after the surgery, the stitches are removed. At this point, the eye is already significantly less swollen, and the external appearance is largely restored.
