Presentation
The Institute of Earth Sciences at the University of Lausanne invites applications for a post-doctoral research scientist in mineral microbe interactions with a special focus on the S cycle. The broad themes that are being developed are (i) Fe and S biogeochemical cycles during the Precambrian, (ii) Biosignature and redox conditions recorded in modern and ancient microbialites (iii) isotopic and mineralogical characterization of sediment analogs of the Early Earth. The successful candidate is expecting to bring in their own research ideas.
The minimum qualification for this position is a PhD in geochemistry or a related subject. A strong background in mineralogy, geochemistry and previous experience with microscopy, and geochemical technique is required. Previous work experience with SIMS is beneficial. Good spoken and written English are prerequisite. Working knowledge of French is not necessary at first but the successful candidate must acquire sufficient skills by the end of their first year to be able to assist with practical work.

Expected start date in position : 01.08.2026 / or upon agreement
Contract length : 1 year, the contract may be renewed once for a total duration of 3 years
Activity rate : 100 %

Your responsibilities
70% of the activity will be devoted to independent, high quality research combining mineralogy and geochemistry.
Up to 30% of the activity will involve teaching and administrative support, including supervision of BSc and MSc students and support to the SwissSIMS laboratory.
Your qualifications
You must hold a PhD in a relevant field of natural science.
Interest in conducting research in the fields of mineralogy and geochemistry.
