Beautiful, but also healthy teeth!

Maintaining the health of teeth and gums is very important to us as dental professionals. Experience over recent years has shown that it is indeed possible to keep tooth decay under control for a lifetime!

Many of the children we have cared for in our practice over the years have caries-free teeth, not least because of the school examination voucher, which is provided by the municipality to every schoolchild from the start to the end of compulsory schooling for an annual check-up with the family dentist. Unfortunately, we repeatedly see that children from other cultural backgrounds less frequently benefit from this opportunity to maintain healthy teeth, often due to the parents' lack of knowledge.

Maintaining the caries-free status of our teenage patients following the start of apprenticeships or attending secondary school, and the resulting independence, is a greater challenge that we encounter time and again. Therefore, we also take the liberty of drawing the attention of young patients or their parents to this.

Fortunately, we also see that alongside the reduction of caries in today’s patients, the gums are healthier. This is favoured by regular, often more frequent treatment by the prophylaxis assistant or dental hygienist. This circumstance mostly leads to the pink-white aesthetics in adolescents and adults, which, together with a beautiful tooth alignment, make up the lovely and friendly smile and their attractiveness.

At the same time, we also observe that the interest of patients of all age groups, besides health, clearly leans towards appearance and beauty. The friendly smile with white, healthy, and intact teeth has achieved a very high value for today’s patients.

Many patients are not averse to bleaching. Our recommendation is always to be well informed about it, so that it remains not only beautiful but – and this is all the more important – healthy teeth!
