The Section of Language and Information Sciences of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lausanne is advertising a position for a first assistant in computational humanities.
Job Information
Start date: February 1, 2026
Contract duration: one year, renewable twice for 2 years each, maximum total duration of 5 years
Work rate: 80%
Workplace: Lausanne-Dorigny
Your Activities
At least 50% of the work rate will be dedicated to personal and collective research, and to carrying out a personal research project in the broad field of computational humanities, particularly considering their theoretical, historical, methodological, and applied dimensions.
Up to 50% of the work rate will be devoted to supporting teaching tasks in computer science programs for the humanities and digital humanities, as well as participating in and organizing the scientific activities of the affiliated unit.
Your Profile
● PhD in letters or sciences or equivalent degree (thesis submitted at the time of starting) in the broad field of computational humanities.
● Advanced expertise in programming and strong skills in statistics, quantitative methods, or machine learning.
● Strong interest in developing computational methods and models applied to humanities issues and data, especially among the disciplines taught at UNIL, including digital humanities, video game studies, language sciences, or artificial intelligence.
● Willingness to develop a personal research project in this field.
● Ability to take initiative and work autonomously and in a team.
● Strong interest in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approaches.
● Good command of French and English (level B2 or equivalent).
The first assistant mandate cannot be performed as a continuation of a graduated assistant mandate at UNIL; the candidate must have at least twelve months of professional and/or research experience after the end of their assistant contract.
