About the job
21.06.2021
With the innovative large-scale storage, we demonstrate courage and lay the foundation for the power grid of tomorrow.
The sun is shining and our 4 m tall solar flower casually stretches towards the heat to diligently produce solar power. With summer, the newly constructed access road to our Vial substation in the Domat/Ems industrial park has turned green. Next to our new neighbours Hamilton Ems AG and BC Tech AG, our substation almost disappears, yet a great deal of innovation is evident on our site. Since the end of March, after around 10 months of realisation time, an 8 m large battery storage in the form of a container has been standing there. With a capacity of 1.25 MW, it is the largest storage in the region and one of the first ever in Switzerland.
Today, the large storage was ceremoniously inaugurated together with Chairman of the Board Markus Feltscher and the partners involved in the project. "Storage is needed for a CO2-free future. We are at the forefront when it comes to innovative projects. Thus, this storage fits both our strategy and the environment of our forward-looking neighbours Hamilton and BC Tech," welcomed Markus Feltscher, Chairman of the Board of Rhiienergie AG, the invited guests. Christian Capaul, Managing Director of rhiienergie, also expressed pride in the large storage, which offers an all-round carefree package for a modern grid of tomorrow. "Especially with the currently high electricity prices, it is exciting to be able to offer balancing energy flexibly thanks to the storage, which should have a positive effect on our customers' wallets," Capaul explained. This is also confirmed by Michel Maiorano, Origination Axpo Solutions AG. By reducing and smoothing load peaks, the grid can be relieved and used more efficiently. Axpo ensures through the management and marketing of the battery that it is always used where it is needed. Maiorano thanked rhiienergie for the good cooperation and noted that such a unique project also requires a lot of courage. Armin Tanner, representative of the municipality of Domat/Ems, also congratulated the innovative project and is pleased about the forward-looking expansion in the Vial industrial park in Domat/Ems.
The landscaping is now almost complete. rhiienergie is still working on a bench that will donate solar power to passers-by. Thanks to the large storage, there is enough energy available.
