At the Faculty of Theology of the University of Basel, an assistant position (Doc or PostDoc) in the field of Old Testament and Semitic Linguistics (Prof. Dr Sonja Ammann) is to be filled from 1 January 2027 or by arrangement. The position is initially limited to one year (Doc) or two years (PostDoc) and will be extended by three (Doc) or four (PostDoc) years upon positive evaluation.
Your tasks
- Independent research and academic further qualification with the aim of a doctorate or habilitation in the field of Old Testament/Hebrew Bible
- Participation in teaching (2 semester hours per week)
- Co-design and support of projects (preparation of third-party funding applications, organisation of international workshops, etc.)
- Participation in academic self-administration
Your profile
- Above-average degree in Theology with a focus on the Hebrew Bible / Old Testament, possibly with a doctorate
- Very good knowledge of Hebrew (good knowledge of Greek desired)
- Very good knowledge of English and German (applicants should be able to teach and correspond in German, or be willing to achieve the corresponding language level within six months of starting the position)
- Openness to interdisciplinary and international collaboration
- Enjoyment of independent and team-oriented academic work
