About the job

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel for our Legal Team in Basel. In this role, you will advise the company on demanding national and international legal matters and take responsibility for complex M&A transactions, international contract negotiations, as well as strategic projects. You will work closely with the General Counsel, the executive management, and our international subsidiaries, making a significant contribution to the legal safeguarding and further development of the Medartis Group.

Your area of responsibility

• Independent management and legal support of M&A transactions – from due diligence to post-merger integration.
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating international contracts as well as further developing global contract standards.
• Legal advice to the headquarters and international subsidiaries on corporate, contract, and commercial law issues.
• Supporting the General Counsel in the areas of corporate governance.
• Participation in strategic and cross-departmental projects as well as deputising for the General Counsel when required.
• Independent handling of legal cases, regulatory procedures, and management of external legal advisors worldwide.
• Support and advice to the organisation on data protection; conception and delivery of training on compliance, data protection, insider trading, and other legal topics.

Your qualifications

• Completed law degree (Master of Law/Licentiate) from a Swiss university; Swiss bar admission and/or LL.M. advantageous.
• At least 5–8 years of relevant professional experience as an in-house Legal Counsel in an internationally active company, ideally in the medical technology, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sector; experience in a publicly listed company is advantageous.
• Solid experience in independently conducting M&A transactions and negotiating international contracts.
• Excellent knowledge of Swiss corporate and capital markets law.
• Entrepreneurial thinking, pragmatic and solution-oriented working style, as well as strong analytical understanding.
• Confident demeanour and the ability to collaborate on equal terms with executive management, the board of directors, and international stakeholders.
• Independent, structured, and responsible working style with high resilience.
• Fluent German, English, and French skills, both written and spoken, in an international environment; additional language skills are an advantage.
