About the job
Apprentice Physics Laboratory Technician (Focus on Electronics/Measurement Technology) (a)
For August 2027, we offer two challenging apprenticeships in the Transport at Nanoscale Interfaces department and the Centre for Electronics and Reliability in a fascinating research environment.
Working at an ETH research institute brings a lot of variety to your professional everyday life. If you are interested in physics, electronics, technology, and materials, we guarantee exciting tasks in an international research environment. Additionally, you love tinkering and crafting.
Secondary school level A is soon history and you will complete it with very good results, especially in the scientific, mathematical, but also linguistic subjects. Your theoretical and practical interest in physics, electronics, as well as computer science and technical systems, and in the field of materials and chemistry will support you during your apprenticeship. You have good observational and comprehension skills, are persistent, experimental, and enjoy working in a team. Your technical understanding and manual dexterity are just as important as your ability for abstract and analytical thinking. We also appreciate diligence and reliability. Enjoying working with computers and electronics is a must.
You are also convinced to start your future with a vocational apprenticeship.
- Versatile basic training in electronics, measurement technology, mechanics, construction, programming, microscopy, and materials science
- Development, production, and commissioning of measurement systems and experimental setups
- Preparation, execution, and documentation of experiments
- Physical investigation of the material properties of electronic assemblies and components
- Collaboration in research projects across various Empa departments
- Committed and qualified professional trainers
- Very well-equipped laboratory workplaces with modern devices
- You will attend vocational school in Zurich. Attendance of the BMS is supported
Applications received will be reviewed until July 2026. If you progress, an initial interview will take place in July/August. Afterwards, we will decide on the shortlist for the subsequent selection day.
