The Cantonal Tax Office is responsible for enforcing the provisions of federal, cantonal, and municipal taxes. It ensures a complete registration of all taxpayers, professional and customer-oriented tax assessment, and uniform tax collection.
The Management Support main department of the Cantonal Tax Office St.Gallen supports all organisational units within the office in fulfilling their tasks and provides the necessary infrastructure. Within this main department, the Finance and Infrastructure division is responsible for accounting, portfolio management, as well as all infrastructural and security-related matters of the office.
Due to the retirement of the previous post holder, we are looking for you from 1 January 2027 or by arrangement as

What to expect
- You lead the Finance and Infrastructure area both in terms of personnel and expertise and are responsible for the organisation, planning, and coordination of infrastructure
- You lead cross-departmental organisational projects and actively shape the organisational development of the office – especially regarding business strategy and strategic IT planning in view of the major IT Taxes SG+ project
- You are responsible for accounting, budgeting, invoicing, as well as task and financial planning of the office, analyse deviations, and ensure effective controlling
- You manage the project portfolio of the entire Cantonal Tax Office, coordinate priorities, resources, and time dependencies, thereby creating transparency as a basis for decision-making for the office management
- You are responsible for the infrastructure of the entire office (excluding IT) and ensure efficient and reliable operational processes
- You act as the security officer of the Cantonal Tax Office, coordinate security issues with the Finance Department, and implement agreed measures
- You promote a culture of responsibility, transparency, and collaboration
What distinguishes you
- You have a master’s degree or a comparable higher education as well as function-related further training and leadership training
- You bring at least five years of relevant professional experience, including several years with personnel management responsibility – ideally in a larger organisation or public administration
- You have solid experience in finance and accounting, budgeting, financial planning, and controlling as well as a good understanding of financial interrelations
- You bring experience in project and portfolio management as well as organisational development and have successfully designed and implemented larger, cross-departmental change or organisational projects – ideally in connection with digitalisation or the introduction of new specialised systems
- You think strategically and conceptually, quickly recognise connections and dependencies, and maintain an overview even with complex issues and differing interests
- You work in a structured, reliable, and independent manner, set clear priorities, and consistently bring topics to completion
- You are an empathetic, authentic, and binding leadership personality with high communication and service orientation as well as enjoyment in collaboration across organisational boundaries
