About the job
We are looking for a motivated Associate Scientist / Senior Laboratory Specialist, who will strengthen our Pilot Plant Bern team . In this role, you will take on a central, hands-on function in the preparation, execution and follow-up of Pilot Plant activities. The focus is on the independent operation, cleaning and maintenance of process equipment as well as reliable documentation and support of development, transfer and lifecycle management activities. The Pilot Plant Bern operates in an environment classified as cleanroom class D; the activities are non-GxP, yet the relevant cleanroom, safety and documentation requirements must be consistently adhered to.

MAIN TASKS
Independent execution of routine and non-routine plant and laboratory work in a Pilot Plant environment classified as cleanroom class D.
Perform manual operations such as column connection, buffer flushing, assembly and disassembly of process setups as well as minor method adjustments and/or programming of process equipment, e.g. chromatography or ultra-/diafiltration systems, according to specifications.
Monitor the process flow and intervene promptly in case of deviations or unexpected process behaviour.
Creation, revision and review of batch documentation, protocols, work instructions and SOPs applying good documentation practice, including support for protocol improvements and scientific documentation.
Organisation and handling of calibrations, maintenance and technical reports as well as their documentation and tracking in SAP.
Preparation of buffer solutions, packing of chromatography columns and performing simple analytical measurements.
Flexible assembly and demand-based adjustment of process equipment and process setups in close coordination with supervisors and project managers.
Support in technology transfer, development and lifecycle management activities through reliable practical implementation and structured documentation.
Support and training of less experienced employees within defined areas of responsibility.
Willingness to be flexible with working hours, including temporary shift models during intensive campaigns or project phases.
Qualifications
Completed laboratory technician training, bachelor’s degree or comparable qualification in a relevant scientific, technical, pharmaceutical, chemical or food technology field.
Alternatively, relevant practical experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, food or technical production environment.
Strong hands-on focus and enjoyment of practical work with process equipment, tools and technical systems.
Experience or interest in method adjustments, recipe/method programming and technical parameterisation of process equipment, especially chromatography and ultra-/diafiltration systems, is advantageous.
Experience in cleanroom environments, especially cleanroom class D, is advantageous.
Experience with cleaning, equipment preparation, documentation and SAP-supported maintenance or reporting processes is advantageous.
Understanding of good documentation practice as well as careful, comprehensible and structured working methods.
High self-motivation, sense of responsibility and solution-oriented working style.
Team spirit as well as ability to perform tasks independently and reliably.
Adaptability, organisational skills and willingness to flexibly support changing project and campaign requirements.
Good German skills; English skills are an advantage.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is an advantage.
