About the job
With a business profit of CHF 17.4 million, the NKB presents the second-best half-year result in its history. Thanks to the clear strategic orientation and its proven expertise and advisory competence, the bank was able to increase its earnings power in its core business once again. Significant growth was achieved in both the financing and investment business. "That we were able to continue growing in direct customer business is very pleasing and once again confirms the great trust our customers place in us," says Heinrich Leuthard, Chairman of the Executive Board.
Despite the positive result in the operational area, the business profit is below the previous year's level. On the one hand, the market environment, characterised by geopolitical tensions and a significant easing of the Swiss National Bank's (SNB) monetary policy compared to the previous year, remains challenging. On the other hand, the already very good result in the extremely successful 2024 financial year was additionally influenced by the reversal of extraordinary value adjustments.
Financing business increased again
In the first half of 2025, NKB succeeded in increasing customer loans by CHF 202.7 million (+ 3.9%). The loan volume now amounts to CHF 5,359.8 million. Heinrich Leuthard comments: "That we were able to expand the loan volume so strongly despite the still challenging situation in the regional real estate market is a clear sign of the proven advisory and professional competence of our advisors."
Securities and custody account volume further expanded
The bank also built on the extremely successful previous year in the securities and investment business. The custody assets were increased to CHF 2,930.2 million (+ 6.0%) thanks to a positive net new money inflow of CHF 94.8 million.
Net profit of CHF 7.3 million
After the formation of reserves for general banking risks, a net profit of
CHF 7.3 million (- 5.9%) results. Equity capital now amounts to
CHF 555.1 million (CHF 544.7 million as of 31 December 2024). Despite global uncertainties and challenges, the annual outlook remains positive.
Last year within the 2022 – 2026 strategy
In summer 2022, NKB launched its "Uisblick" strategy for the period 2022 to 2026 – the bank has now entered the final year of the strategy. Numerous milestones have been achieved over the past three years. The newly established sales and channel management was instrumental in launching the new product and service offering. Much has also happened in the area of digital channels: NKB launched the new Mobile Banking App, continuously developed its online appointment scheduling tool, and published its 2024 business and sustainability report for the first time in digital form. Further digitisation projects are underway. MEDVIA, the new ecosystem for medical professionals, is still being purposefully developed and expanded. NKB also continues to maintain its physical locations in the digital age – five of the seven branches have been stylishly renovated and modernised. Construction projects in Hergiswil and Wolfenschiessen are in planning.
"We are on course with the implementation of the strategy, and I am convinced that in the final year of the current strategy period we will implement pioneering projects that will further strengthen our bank and open up new opportunities," says Heinrich Leuthard.
Heinrich Leuthard to retire at the end of June 2026
After more than 13 years at the helm of NKB, Heinrich Leuthard will retire at the end of June 2026 and hand over overall management of the bank. During his tenure, he brought about a successful cultural change, modernised key processes, and advanced the bank's digitalisation. Success indicators improved significantly in all areas – the result of continuous development and a strong leadership style with heart and mind. The bank's board thanks Heinrich Leuthard for his great and successful commitment and has initiated the succession process.
New solar system at NKB headquarters
In spring 2025, NKB installed a new photovoltaic system on the roof of its headquarters building in Stans. The commissioning of the system marks a significant step within the bank's sustainability strategy. This sends a clear signal of its long-term commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
Satisfied customers at NKB
NKB's customers are very satisfied with their bank and gladly recommend it – as shown by the latest customer survey from spring 2025. The personal relationship with customers remains the origin and main reason for the high satisfaction. The survey also highlights where expectations have increased – particularly in the area of digital offerings. Already planned projects, such as in digital banking, will be pursued purposefully. As a token of appreciation for participating in the survey, NKB donated CHF 20,000 to two charitable institutions in the region.
